German tenor (1831-1917), associated with the music of Wagner, and creator of the role of Siegmund in the first complete performance of Der Ring des Nibelungen in Bayreuth in 1876. Set of two cartes-de-visite (CDV), here shown as Jean de Leyde in Meyerbeer’s “Le prophète” and as Gounod’s Faust in the eponymous opera; one CDV by B.J. Hirsch (Berlin). Size is 2.4 x 3.8 inches each, in excellent condition.
