Nigeria: 20th century. Hollow cast copper-alloy head depicting a crowned ruler with incised facial scarification and elaborate headdress. The piece is open at the top and was likely produced as a decorative vessel or commemorative object inspired by the celebrated bronze-casting traditions of Benin, Nigeria. Rich dark patina with areas of verdigris oxidation. Displays well with strong sculptural presence. Measures 7 in. x 15 in. x 8 in.
