Alexandria, VA: 1987 . Watercolor on art paper, 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches, matted. Abbott 1920-1988 was a longtime resident of Alexandria, Virginia, working at Fort Belvoir while leading various Audubon Society activities, including bird counts. He wrote and illustrated a number of books and pamphlets concerning the ornithology of Fort Belvoir, was an authority on the American Bald Eagle, and his 1957 painting of the Common Eider won the annual contest to become that years' Federal Duck Stamp
