First edition of Edith Frederic Clements' Flower Families and Their Ancestors, an excellent example in the attractive original floral binding. Edith Frederic Clements were married American botanists who collaborated on a number of joint publications. Edith often illustrated their work, and her botanical plates were celebrated for their artistic merit. In their preface, they write that this book 'has been written in the hope of making the study of flowering plants both simple and attractive to beginners of all ages' (p. iii). First edition; 8vo; colour frontispiece, numerous black white in-text illustrations, internally clean; publisher's black cloth, spine lettered in gilt, upper board lettered in gilt with decorative columbine flowers in gilt, red, and green, spine lightly faded else a near-fine copy; x, 156pp.
