The typescript is incomplete; it ends about three-fourths of the way through the story after the sentence She couldn't hear the blood in his ears, the roar of the whirlpool of hate and fear and anguish that spun inside of him. This powerful antiwar story was first published in ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION, November 1947. It first appeared in a book in THE ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION ANTHOLOGY, edited by John W. Campbell, Jr.
