Voyage of the Prince Albert in Search of Sir John Franklin: A Narrative of Every-Day Life in the Arctic Seas. First edition of this account the first search expedition sponsored by Lady Franklin, based on the author's private journals. Snow volunteered for the voyage "prompted by a dream, which he believed had shown him the true route. The idea came to dominate his whole life" (ODNB). He served on the Prince Albert as second in command to Captain Charles Forsyth.The vessel sailed from June to September 1850, travelling through Baffin Bay and Barrow Strait and exploring the Boothia Peninsula. On the expedition's return, Snow received the polar medal. "He was convinced that success had been hindered by Forsyth's refusal to go on, and during the following years he vainly importuned the Admiralty to send him out again in command of any vessel, however small, and tried to organize unofficial searches" (ODNB).
