The folding map shows routes between each island as well as to the rest of the world.Watanabe was a graduate of the University of Hawai'i who moved around O'ahu as a Japanese-language school teacher. His history of Hawai'i spans from the ancient first settlement of the islands to the arrival of Captain Cook, the reign of Kamehameha I, the secession to America, and the early 20th century. The final section focuses on Japan-Hawai'i relations and the challenges faced by second-generation immigrants. The list of Japanese warships that docked in Hawai'i opens with the Tsukuba in February 1876 through to the training ships Yakumo and Izumo on 23 August 1928.
