First and limited editions, one of 137 and 150 respectively, here inscribed by the artist on the half-title of the first work: "To Donald McCurdie, from Edward Scott-Snell". These early collections of Scott-Snell's fantastical woodcuts and line drawings depict scenes from classical mythology and fairy tales.In 1940, Scott-Snell (1912-1988) married Stephani Godwin (1917-2006) and the couple became the first tenants to inhabit Kelmscott Manor following May Morris's death. The creative pair collaborated in both writing and illustrating several works including poetry, children's books, and a biography of William Morris.
