A working rehearsal script used by Terry Saunders, the first replacement Lady Thiang on Broadway and the actor of the role on screen, inscribed on the dramatis personae page, "May 21, 1982. For Steve, with love and admiration – Terry Saunders ("Lady Thiang")". This copy is additionally signed on the first page of text by Yul Brynner. There are differences from the published script.The role of the King of Siam's head wife, Lady Thiang, was created by Dorothy Sarnoff but she was replaced by Terry Saunders (1923–2011). The present script therefore represents a state of the text after opening. Many of the actor's changes to the text are not present in the version first published in 1951 by Random House ; they provide a record of the play in performance not reflected in the published script.Immediately before the march of the Siamese children, for example, Anna dismisses the king's announcement with the argument "But, Your Majesty, we have not solved my problem". This is present in the rehearsal script and the published text. However, the script includes deletions and additions to read "That's all very interesting, Your Majesty, but we have not solved my problem". Such changes occur throughout the script, and are not limited to the character of Lady Thiang.Three loosely inserted sheets comprise a call sheet for 1 December 1955, a schedule sheet between 2 and 14 December, together with "Production Requirements" for scenes 25–26 ("Ext Courtyard & School Pavilion").
