Suite of photographs, four signed by Wally Herbert and other expedition members, concerning the 1968-69 British Trans-Arctic Expedition. A collection that includes a signed portrait of Herbert, a signed photograph of Allan Gill on a sled, and two expedition photographs signed by Herbert, Gill, Dr Roy Koerner, Captain Kenneth Hedges, and Squadron Leader Freddie Church.Herbert's team reached the pole on 6 April 1969 and, a month later, completed the first surface crossing of the Arctic Ocean along its longest axis. Their expedition, undertaken with the patronage of the Duke of Edinburgh, lasted 16 months and covered 3,800 miles.The suite may have been produced for a publicity or fundraising event held shortly after Herbert's return to Britain. An accompanying press release describes the expedition's aims and course and profiles the participants.
