Pathways of Palestine: A Descriptive Tour Through the Holy Land. First edition of this attractively illustrated travelogue. A canon, freemason, and global traveller, Tristram "was a close observer and an avid and diligent collector. His knowledge of the geology, topography, and natural history of Palestine was very considerable" (ODNB).Tristram first travelled to the Middle East in the late 1850s and made several further visits in the coming decades. His Fauna and Flora of Palestine (1884) laid the foundations of Palestinian biological research and was published by the Palestine Exploration Fund. An accompanying volume, described as the "second series", was issued the following year.
