Yamamoto's work has been exhibited across the world, garnering praise for his renderings of landscape, flowers, and in particular the female nude. Many of the images in this work were published here for the first time.Masao Yamamoto (b. 1957) first took up photography at 16 years old but chose instead to focus on painting in his early career. He picked up the camera again in 1993 and has since become known for his "small hand-worked gelatin silver prints, which encourage the viewer to engage with photography as a tactile experience" (Etherton Gallery). "He encourages viewers to pick up his accordion album and look at its images one by one or in whatever grouping they like as the pages are laid out along a long table. Viewers can read his groupings as poems or stories or come up with their own poems or stories, drawing on the memories or experiences these images conjure up" (The New York Times).Of the 1,000 copies printed, 100 comprise a special issue with a signed and numbered original print.
