A three-part panorama of Brisbane from the Old Windmill. A detailed vista of Brisbane taken from the Old Windmill, recently fitted out to serve as a public observatory. Looking to Parliament House at Gardens Point, the panorama shows Brisbane shortly after Queensland separated from New South Wales.At the centre is the Gothic Revival-style Parliament House, built in 1868 and home to Queensland's legislative assembly following the colony's separation in 1859. The English architect Charles Tiffin, who designed the building, was also responsible for the Old Government House, evident adjacent to Parliament House. The twin gables of St John's Pro-Cathedral are visible just north of the two government buildings. The Old Windmill, the oldest surviving building in Queensland, was built in 1828 by convict labourers in the then Moreton Bay penal settlement. The panorama resembles a chromolithographic view showing Brisbane in 1872, issued by Maclure and Macdonald of London and now held at the State Library of New South Wales.
