Oracula metrica Iovis, Apollinis, Hecates, Serapidis, A collection of verse prophecies by the most important oracles of ancient Greece and Rome. Included are the oracles of Apollo in Delphi and Mylos, of Jupiter in Dodona and Ammon, Hecate and Serapis, and other gods such as Aesculapius and Trophonius.The prophecies, drawn from classical authors, are concerned with health, meteorological phenomena, births and death (including the death of Hannibal, p. 63), the outcome of wars, and more. The last text is Oneirocreticon, an ancient manual on the interpretation of dreams attributed by Scaliger to Astrampsychus; in the manual, specific dream events are interpreted as signs that predict real-life outcomes. The work was edited by the philologist Johannes Opsopoeus and first published in 1589 as part his collected edition of the Sibylline oracles. It was reprinted in the same work in 1599 and 1607, but also circulated separately.
