Seamus".The recipient was Paul Sullivan, a stockbroker in Massachusetts who was a close friend and patron of Heaney. The pair were brought together through mutual associations with the Irish poet and editor Peter Fallon and remained friends for decades. This copy was acquired directly from Sullivan's estate.This American edition prints Heaney's version in parallel with the original text for the first time. Dedicated to the memory of Ted Hughes, Heaney's translation of the Anglo-Saxon epic was published in Britain the previous year and won the Whitbread Book of the Year award.
