CUMMING, Hanway R.
Inquire · Offered by Peter Harrington
A Brigadier in France: 1917-1918. First edition, first impression; this a particularly sharp copy in the scarce dust jacket. Cumming commanded 91st Brigade, 7th Division, in November 1916, and took over 110th Brigade, 21st Division, in March 1918; "in the latter capacity he was in the thick of the fight against the last German offensive of the war".Falls remarks that "There are comparatively few records left by soldiers of the rank of Brig.-General Cumming, and this book gives a good idea of the life of the commander of an infantry brigade on the Western Front... His writing is frank and manly, and he does not hesitate to criticise where he thinks criticism is due. This able and gallant officer was murdered in Ireland after the War".
