This detailed guide covers all parts of the imperial capital, catering for everything from day trips to suggested 12-day itineraries. In addition, it introduces the Buddhist monasteries of Nara, the seaside of Toba, and the grand shrine at Ise. We have traced only six institutional copies of this edition.This booklet was produced by the Miyako Hotel, one of the largest and most famous hotels in the Meiji period. It was established in 1890 by the merchant Nishimura Nihee, who grew it into a 150-room establishment by 1906. Through its guidebooks and dedicated tourist information desk, it was one of the main forces in shaping the image of Kyoto among the developing tourist market.
