Two brothers, John and Dan Murphy, established Murpy's camp in 1848 as one of the Mother Lode diggings in man's search for gold. Missionaries soon followed them and established the Church in Murphys to assist man in his search for God. The story on the following pages is the history of that effort, as it was made by the First Congregational Church from 1866 to 1966.
