The Ceremonies to be Observed at the Royal Coronation of Her Most Sacred Majesty Queen Victoria in the Abbey Church of Westminster, on Thursday the twenty-eighth day of June, MDCCCXXXVIII. First edition, printed on silk. A remarkable, unique piece of Victoriana: the copy read by Queen Victoria's mother during her coronation, presented to a guest by the Earl Marshall's gold staff officer, and with the invitees engraved invitation loosely inserted. Throughout history, printing on silk represents a rare and highly expensive novelty, reserved for producing the most luxurious copies of important texts.The inside front cover is inscribed: "A Coronation gift to Miss Graham, being the book from which The Queen's Mother read the ceremonies to be observed at her daughter's Coronation 29 [sic] June 1838. Presented by Major Thornhill K.H. The Earl Marshal's Gold Staff Officer at the Royal Box on that day". Major James Badham Thornhill (d. 1845), entered the army in 1804, and saw much service in the West Indies. As gold staff officer he performed the role of an usher in the coronation. Loosely inserted is Miss Graham's official engraved coronation ticket, number 622 on blue stock, issued by the Earl Marshal of England, the 12th Duke of Norfolk, with his blind stamp.
