History of the Conquest of Peru, Prescott's text on Peruvian history followed his 1843 writings on Mexico in 1847, although he "had difficulty recreating the romantic narrative... because he disdained the character of the Pizarros and their followers" (ANB). This new and revised edition was presented to W. T. Waterhouse by Southport-based jam-maker and philanthropist William Pickles Hartley.
