Daesh! First editions, a rare full run of this Soviet avant-garde artistic magazine, seeking to produce a new proletarian art and raise the artistic literacy of the population, prior to the establishment of Socialist Realism as the only accepted art form. Included is an original photograph by Rodchenko, with his studio stamp on the verso, depicting four cattle; the photograph was published in the eighth issue of the magazine. It's title translatable as Let's Produce!, the magazine was published in 14 issues from April to December 1929. It was closely tied to the The October Group, a collective of Constructivist artists. It was one of the main vehicles for Rodchenko to publish his photographs. The magazine also printed prose and verse, including a contribution by Joseph Stalin in the fifth issue attacking bureaucracy.It was "a forum for the discussion of all things related to the still yet-to-gel sociopolitical, cultural and aesthetic expressions of the Soviet polity five years after Lenin's death; two years before the end of the first five year plan, the dissolution of RAPP, and the establishment of Socialist Realism as the mandated narrative and representational mode of Soviet art and literature; and six years before the beginning of the Great Purges" (Keenan).Other contributors include Alexander Rodchenko, Boris Ignatovich, Dmitrii Debabov, Dmitrii Orlov), Aleksander Deineka, Vladimir Liushin, and Mechislav Dobrokovskii.
