Autograph letter signed, to the editor of The Times, arranging publication of a letter and access to papers on his father. Churchill writes to George Earle Buckle, the editor of The Times, submitting a letter for publication, and requesting access to material relating to his father, Lord Randolph Churchill."Many thanks; proof complete with 'cheers' & 'laughter' herewith: but there is some stuff about finance & tariffs which precedes this & which is not perhaps worth printing". The Times published a letter from Churchill under the heading "Mr Winston Churchill and Trade Unions" on 17 November, possibly the letter referred to here, though the published letter is dated 28 October. It contained nothing on finance and tariffs.Churchill continues, "I want very much to have a talk to you about my biography. I am sure you must have some material for me. There are a great many letters of yours among my father's papers". Churchill had been appointed his father's official biographer in autumn 1902. The work was published as Lord Randolph Churchill in 1906.Provenance: the collection of Steve Forbes, chairman of Forbes Magazine, and presidential candidate in the 1996 and 2000 US elections.
