Philosophical Investigations. First edition of the philosopher's second masterpiece, published two years after his death. It strives to expose "fallacies in the traditional way of thinking about language, truth, thought, intentionality, and, perhaps mainly, philosophy. In this sense, it is conceived of as a therapeutic work, viewing philosophy itself as therapy" (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy).Anscombe (1918-2001) was Wittgenstein's former student and eventually took up his old chair of philosophy at Cambridge. Raymond Monk praised her "most skilful and sensitive translation. It is cause for rejoicing that she will translate the material for subsequent volumes of Wittgenstein's works" (cited in Fann, p. 213). Anscombe did indeed translate at least four of Wittgenstein's other philosophical works.
