Commentaries on Living. From the Notebooks. First edition of this collection of 88 essays by the Theosophical Society's "Chosen One". Krishnamurti was raised to be the vessel for the "coming" of the World Teacher, but he rejected this plan, declaring he did not want followers. He later expanded upon the Commentaries on Living with a second (1958) and third series (1960).The editor, Desikachayra Rajagopal (1900-1993), was raised to be a spiritual leader alongside Krishnamurti (1895-1986). Rajagopal departed the Theosophical Society with Krishnamurti in 1929, and from 1927 to 1967 he edited and published Krishnamurti's public lectures. Their relationship and its controversial end is described in Lives in the Shadow with J. Krishnamurti (1991) by Rajagopal's daughter Radha.
