The Passionate Years. First edition, accompanied by an unpublished autograph poem signed by the author. The 12 lines of romantic verse are headed "for E.E. from C.C.", likely dedicated to the artist and filmmaker Emlen Etting. Crosby appeared in two of Etting's avant-garde short films, Poem 8 (1932) and Oramunde (1933).Crosby discusses Etting in the book, observing that "Emlen and I were always contriving outlets for our surreal response to life... [through] the nursling of our united brains and belief, so Poem 8 was born - but the achievement was Emlen's this time, I was only a prop, although a torrid one at that" (pp. 312-13).The Passionate Years is an autobiography of 39 "short anecdotal chapters, which critics generally admired for its vivacious style and intimate rendering of 1920s Paris" (Hamalian, p. 172).
