The House of Hope. Poems. First edition, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Christine, from M.W.C., Peace 1919 to Peace 1945, 1950". The House of Hope is May Wedderburn Cannan's third volume of poetry and the work which inspired a letter from an admirer, Percival Slater, who became Cannan's husband. Cannan is best known as a wartime poet who worked as a nurse in the voluntary aid detachment in Rouen and for MI5 in Paris during the First World War.
