The Birds of America, The final octavo edition of Audubon's masterpiece, in the publisher's deluxe full morocco binding, and in exceptional condition - "the most beautiful, popular, and important natural history books published in America in the nineteenth century" (Tyler, p. xiii).The legendary double-elephant folio edition was published in Edinburgh and London between 1827 and 1838. It was published for a wider audience in octavo format between 1840 and 1844. This final edition - after which a warehouse fire destroyed the lithographic stones - was printed from the same lithographic stones and stereotype plates used for the first octavo edition.
