The Pollution Show. First edition of this catalogue illustrating works from The Pollution Show, an exhibition of 70 artists' impressions of pollution and its effect on the world. The catalogue opens with a preface from the Sierra Club, warning of the approaching "point of no return at which the environmental catastrophe has outstripped our abilities to implement a solution".organized by a committee comprising Don deViveiros, Bob Onodera, and Gordon Yamamoto, the exhibition was hosted at the Oakland Museum in the same year as the first Earth Day. The project was sponsored by a number of eco-conscious organisations including the Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth, Save San Francisco Bay Association, and Planned Parenthood. The majority of the photographs of the artworks were taken by Michael Ramstrom. Participating artists included Ansel Adams, Margo Humphrey, and Barry Wolman (Rolling Stone's first chief photographer).The exhibition's mission statement opens: "Our environment and the quality of our life concerns all of us. So does it concern the 70 artists who make up the statement of this Pollution Show... our Armageddon comes about through the more subtle processes of assimilating land, water, and air, and replacing them with toxins from our vast technological warehouse".
