Shizhuzhai shuahua pu (Ten Bamboo Studio Manual of Calligraphy and Painting). A late-Qing dynasty edition of this famous Chinese painting manual, compiled in the 17th century by the Nanjing scholar Hu Zhengyan (1584-1674), which shaped the artistic studies of generations of professional and literati painters in China and East Asia. The volumes contain ideal illustrations of bamboo, flowers, birds, rocks, fruits, and many other touchstone motifs of Chinese painting, and the illustrations convey guidance on both form and brush technique. The Ten Bamboo Studio Manual inspired legions of imitators, although few have retained the same influence down to the present day.
