Samuel Bass King 1788-1864 eventually became cashier and then president of the first Taunton Bank; just after the period covered in this ledger 1823 , he was serving as secretary of Boston’s Union Insurance Company and it’s possible that this ledger served its accounts. The ledger opens “I have on hand this day in cash 4113.33,” followed by a long list of notes payable
