An appeal to keep the day “holy,” particularly aimed at proprietors of steam-boats, cars, and means of public conveyances: “Our Steam-boats, Rail-road Cars, Stages, and private vehicles groan under the burdens imposed upon them by the sons of pleasure.” Sabbatarianism had a blossoming in the 1830s.
