On the verso, dated 5 Sept. 1832, is printed a letter from Jervis to William Small and Associates at Herkimer, concerning a plan for developing the Herkimer Water Power Company by excavation in order to provide sufficient water resources. Jervis, a Civil Engineer, refers to this letter in the communication to the Directors on the recto, where he writes
