The Puss Moth. 120 H.P. Gipsy III Inverted Engine. Stylish promotional poster-cum-brochure for this grand tourer aircraft, capable of 124 mph and much beloved of the interwar elite. Amy Johnson flew a Puss Moth, named Jason II, on a record-breaking trip from London to Tokyo in 1931.The Puss Moth, which first flew in September 1929, was part of a lineage that led to the famed Tiger Moth, the primary trainer for virtually all Commonwealth pilots of the Second World War. Its Gypsy Major engine was later developed to power the Comet air racer, which pioneered many of the construction techniques used on the legendary Mosquito fighter-bomber.The strapline promised "comfort of a high priced saloon car, upkeep no more than a moth". One side of the poster contains a striking half-page illustration of a passenger, replete in plus-fours, sauntering out of a Puss Moth towards a party of golf partners; the other includes an equally charming pastel depiction of a coastal grove.
