The meeting, to be held in Raleigh’s Executive building on December 17, would elect a President, fill “all vacancies in the Faculty, and consider the “Report of the Committee on RE-organization.” Manly 1795-1871 served as Governor of the state, 1849-1851, and as secretary for the university’s board of trustees, 1821-1847 and 1851-1868. The seemingly optimistic tone of this announcement, toward filling various positions, was not borne out as the 1868 constitution
