Al-mu'wasasāt al-sīāsīah fī dawlat qatar ("Political Institutions in the State of Qatar"). First edition of this sociological study of Qatar and its society, written by Yusuf Muhammad Abaydan, professor at Cairo University. In 1979, the year of publication, a second oil crisis hit the Middle East.The book examines the history, society, and economy of Qatar before and after its independence in 1971, with special attention to its political system and form of government, its political authorities and assemblies, and the role of the emir. It also discusses Qatar's foreign policy, in relation to the Arab League, the GCC, and the United Nations. The appendix reproduces landmark documents and agreements in Qatari history, including those of the British treaty of 1916, dealings with the Political Agent in the Gulf, the arms trade, and Qatar's independence.
