One-page, approximately 25 words, in part: “Make up your statement & we will settle for your men.” Conner began the war as a captain in the Hampton Legion, then commanded the 22nd NC Infantry from Seven Pines through the Battle of the Wilderness, before taking command of Kershaw’s Brigade; he was seriously wounded at Cedar Creek, necessitating a leg amputation. Following the war, Conner resumed his law practice and served as South Carolina Attorney General, 1876-1877.
