Hochöfen. First edition, first printing, limited issue, number 10 of 100 copies issued with an original silver gelatin print of a blast furnace, now mounted and framed. Hochöfen consolidates the Becher's striking photographs of industrial-age blast furnaces, taken in the UK, Belgium, France, Austria, Germany, and the United States, between 1961 and 1989. The Bechers "looked forward to a new integration between the traditional arts and photography, and to a new period of vigour and excitement in European photography, when there was a cross current of mutual development and interaction between photographic cultures, the like of which has rarely been seen before in the medium's history" (Parr).
