The language is simple and rhythmic, making the songs easy for children to learn and sing. Many pieces have a didactic tone typical of 19th-century children’s literature. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Cornelis van Koetsveld (1807–1893), was a Dutch Reformed minister, educator, and writer known for his pastoral and children’s literature. ABOUT THIS COPY: Bound in dark red cloth with gilt lettering and decoration on the cover and spine. Deckled foredge and foot. Periwinkle blue endpapers. Includes four hand colored plates, all present. Frontispiece is protected by a tissue leaf. 104 pp. CONDITION: Good minus, external cover shows it's been well loved with rubbing, some soiling, and thread wear along the edges. Front inner hinge has cracked, there is a rub-through spot on the front endpaper, and the title page and second leaf has detached from the binding, but is present and laid in. Unmarked.
