Boer War & elsewhere.- Dand (James Brignell, Lieutenant, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, of Togston, Northumberland, 1870-1904) c. 20 Autograph Letters signed to "Dear George", together c. 80pp., 8vo & sm. 4to, South Africa (Potchefstroom), India & Brookwood, 1900-04, on various subjects including the dispositions of the Royal Iniskilling Regiment in South Africa, "I have left the Mounted Infantry and rejoined the Regiment yesterday and have been given command of the same Company I served with out in India, when a Captain Pierce had it", and discussing the estate in Togston, colliery etc., folds; and another, a letter from William Guy to his mother, a soldier in South Africa, "The bridge here that was blown up by the Boers is finished now there is a small kopje here with virginia writen [sic] on with white stones by some of the soldiers it is close to the station which is called virginia...", folds, v.s., v.d. (c. 20). *** Lieutenant James Brignell Dand, 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, the eldest son of Mr John Tate Dand, of Hauxley Northumberland, died in Cairo. He served in the South African war with his battalion and took part in the operations in the Transvaal and Orange River Colony.
