Dryden, Charles:
$5,000 · Offered by William Reese Company
WAR IN THE MIDST OF AMERICA. FROM A NEW POINT OF VIEW. A panoramic cartoon strip of the English view of the progress of the American Civil War, done in fairly crude cartoons, and generally critical of the performance of the Union side. Apparently issued prior to Lincoln's assassination—the final panel is titled "Apotheosis of 'old Abe' after which a general flare up and the curtain drops," and depicts Lincoln sitting on a barrel of gunpowder. A rare piece of political cartooning. We locate just three copies in Rare Book Hub.
