Signed by the author on the title page (signature only, no inscription). The dust jacket features the distinctive holographic gold and brown design by Tony Fleetwood, with the title and author name rendered in raised lettering and Gnommish fairy script on the cover and spine. The book is bound in black cloth with Gnommish script stamped in gilt along the spine. This copy includes an original Viking/Puffin promotional insert — a "Crack the Code to Win an iMac" competition card issued at publication in 2001, with terms and conditions closing date of 18 June 2001.
