Polonskii was director of Litizdat, the Red Army's literature and publishing department. He celebrates the political poster's vital contribution to the proletarian revolution and predicts its ongoing centrality to the Soviet Union.In the literature on Soviet political art, "By far the most sophisticated and informed account is by Viacheslav Polonskii, a former Menshevik and leading literary critic who directed Litizdat during the Civil War.
