Palestine Reclaimed: Letters from a Jewish Officer in Palestine. First edition of this collection of letters sent to his wife between April 1918 and May 1919, while the author was serving as regimental medical officer with the 39th Royal Fusiliers, 2nd Judean Battalion (a Jewish unit). Salaman argues that a new chapter in the history of Palestine began with the Balfour Declaration, and commends the now-unstoppable move to a Jewish state.The author was a geneticist, best remembered for his much-reprinted study The History and Social Influence of the Potato. He was influential in the Zionist cause and was elected president of the English Zionist Federation in 1907. He played a major role in assisting Jewish refugees in the 1930s and 1940s.
