A significant association set from the library of the late Santa Fe bookseller Nicholas Potter, a long-time friend of Cormac McCarthy. The Passenger is inscribed by the author in black ink on the front free endpaper: "For Nick | All best | Cormac." Laid into The Passenger is a brief, prescient note in Potter’s hand: "Inscribed copies of this book will be rare." Also present are bookmarks from Santa Fe’s Collected Works Bookstore in both volumes, and Potter’s business card tucked into Stella Maris. 383; 189 pp. Two octavo volumes [24 cm]. Publisher’s blue and red paper-covered boards, respectively; titles gilt-stamped to spines. First edition clearly stated on the copyright pages. In the original illustrated dust jackets with prices and date codes intact. Both volumes are bright, square, and clean, showing only the faintest hints of shelfwear or handling. This set represents a vital physical link in a friendship spanning forty years. Potter’s bookstore was a frequent destination for McCarthy, where the two shared a rapport rooted in a mutual appreciation for literature, art, music, and history. McCarthy, notoriously reclusive and selective with his signature, inscribed the majority of his published works for Potter over the decades; given the timing of their release, this set stands as one of the final associations of its kind.
