The complete first draft typescript of "Faith of our Fathers", Philip K. Dick's Hugo award nominated novelette of political coercion, hallucination, and shifting realities, written late in 1965 for Harlan Ellison's groundbreaking science fiction anthology 'Dangerous Visions' (1967). The typescript comprises 40 pages, (39 on onion skin, 1 on thicker paper), with extensive emendations and additions (nearly 100 in the author's hand), with the title added in manuscript). At the end of page 39, Dick has typed --30-- to indicate the conclusion; the final leaf of typescript, on thicker paper stock and without corrections, is numbered page 43, and adds a new concluding passage. Philip K. Dick scholar Sam Umland believes it to be the final page of a second draft. The manuscript edits to this typescript were largely kept for the published version, but further edits were made that are not apparent here.
