The Dharma Bums (signed by Snyder and Ginsberg)
by Kerouac, Jack [Gary Snyder] [Allen Ginsberg]
$9,500 · Offered by Biblio
First edition · Signed · In dust jacket
NY: Viking Press, 1958. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/Very good. An association copy: signed and dated by both Gary Snyder and Allen Ginsberg on the lower corner of the half-title page. Also signed by Snyder as "Japhy Ryder" on the bottom of the title page in a more flowing calligraphic style, probably on an earlier occasion. The book is a roman a clef, and Snyder is the main character, Japhy Ryder, who models Buddhist practice and eventually leads the narrator up the Matterhorn in the Eastern Sierra for a sublime experience. Ginsberg appears as "Alvah Goldbook" in the book. A near fine copy with just light bumping to spine ends and one spot of wear to lower front corner. In a very good jacket with rubbing and one half-inch tear at the top of the front panel. An iconic book and scarce signed by both Ryder and Goldbook. No copies signed by Kerouac currently on the market.
