This copy of the 35th anniversary edition of this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel is signed both by the author and by the actor whose Oscar-winning performance in the work's screen adaptation has become synonymous in the public eye with the character of Atticus Finch. Harper Lee (1926-2016) drew on her own childhood in Alabama when composing this now-classic story of a young white girl, Scout Finch, watching her father Atticus defend a falsely accused Black man in court; Day praises the novel for capturing the essence of the time and place in which it is set, writing that "this is not a mere 'courtroom' novel but a remarkable evocation of a Deep South community and preteen girlhood." The story was released as a film in 1962, only two years after the book's initial publication, and the movie was an enormous success, led by Peck in the role of Atticus.
