This was the last book written by Potter before her marriage to William Heelis. With her marriage, and the outbreak of the First World War, the author's focus turned from the Peter Rabbit series to farming. There would be no new Beatrix Potter title until 1917. The jacket includes The Tale of Pigling Bland listed on the rear panel as the "new volume for 1913". Sextodecimo. Frontispiece and 14 illustrations in colour, together with black and white illustrations, all by the author. Original maroon boards, spine and front cover lettered in white, front cover with pictorial label, illustrated endpapers. With glassine dust jacket. Housed in a folding box. Minor toning to binding, small hole to rear hinge; hint of foxing to edges; very minor loss to head and foot of jacket spine: a near-fine copy in like jacket. Linder, p. 429; Quinby 22.
