Small square of sunning/tanning at top of spine panel, typically tanned text block edges. Foxed endpapers, mild foxing to several early leaves, former owner s signature stamp to upper front flyleaf. Firm binding, clean interior. Color illus. dust jacket shows a woman in shades of green with vertical striping in pink and red, Good only with rubbing and partial separation to front flap fold and dampstaining to rear flap fold, 3/4 loss at head of spine (nearly all of title), 1/4 loss at heel, shallow chipping to corners and edges, spine panel somewhat grubby, now in mylar. [iv],259,[5] pp. Undated, early G D reprint, described by Bauman s as an odd variant, with Hemmingway misspelled on spine panel and stairs misspelled on p. 169 as in the Scribner typeset; preceded by the publisher s edition and 1930 Modern Library edition, apparently the first (1930) G D edition in a variant binding, unrecorded (see Hanneman A6c, Grissom A.6.1.l).
