Dublin: George Faulkner, 1741. First published anonymously in 1732, this slight poem is by Thomas Sheridan (1687-1788). Sheridan, a typical Eighteenth Century polymath, was an actor-manager of the Smock Alley in Dublin, he published an English dictionary and works on education and elocution. He was the godson of Jonathan Swift, arranging his Works and writing a biography. Continuing the family tradition he was the father of Richard Brinsley. Here is a a Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copy of an early printing from nine years after the initial publication.. Disbound; from a larger volume. Contains the Title Page, advertisement that [Jonathan Swift] wrote an answer, and numbered pages 176-180. A rare item; copies held by the Ransom, University of Illinois, and the National Library of Ireland. No copies currently available in the Trade. Nicely bright and readable, although mildly toned. The fore-end has a 1/2 line of discoloration; within are faint stains along the edges.. Early Printing. Disbound. Near Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6 - 7 tall.
